Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Grace Brethren Church of Frederick is based solely on the Scripture. We believe that salvation is only possible by the grace of God and faith in Jesus Christ. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9)

It is our purpose to fulfill the great commission to go and make disciples, baptizing them and teaching them to obey all things that Christ commanded. And secondly our ministries center in and develop from Christ's mandate to the church in the Upper Room. "A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have loved you...by this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you have this kind of love one for another."

All of our ministries are to be implemented in love. Our preaching, teaching, witnessing, praying and serving all must be motivated by God's kind of love. Also, true evangelism, church planting and all missionary endeavors must be love motivated.

True holiness is the fruit out of love. We do God's will and obey His Word because we love Him, not because we are afraid of Him. We "go with God" willingly. His love was freely given even though it was undeserved and unappreciated. It is very sobering to realize that this kind of love must characterize our relationships or our claim to Christ is invalid. "And now abideth faith, hope and love, these three, and the greatest of these is love". (I Corinthians 13:13)

We believe that every Christian is a minister for the Lord Jesus Christ. We recognize that the world will never be reached with the Gospel, nor the church truly edified, until believers are actively participating in the process. This concept of the Church plays a vital role in the body-life ministry, ministering to one another as God has gifted us (Ephesians 4:11-13). Our goal is to "...love out of a pure heart and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned." (I Timothy 1:3)
